Virgil Miller LAc. M.Ac.O.M

Hello! I may not have been named after the Greek poet Virgil, but like to think that my name beckons ancient wisdom - if not in the area of poetry in particular but in herbal and the ancient art and medicine of acupuncture. I’m named after my late Grandpa Virgil, a humbled Eastern Colorado Farmer.

Growing up in Colorado I spent a large majority of my childhood hiking in the mountains and communing with nature and plants. It was a natural choice for me to study natural medicine. My mom had been chasing me around the house with an echinacea tincture before I could speak. Nurturing and caring for life whether it’s plants or my patients is a lifelong passion, and I’ve helped thousands of Alaskan’s heal their body’s and their selves to the point life feels a return of hopefulness. It’s not the condition that I treat but the whole person, taking time and listening to my patients unique needs and preferences in how they’ll work towards the life they always dreamed.

I've discovered that Chinese medicine philosophy aligns with what I’ve observed in nature and it provides key insights to how our bodies work naturally. Its knowledge and wisdom have so much depth and have become a fundamental part of how I view the world. The discovery happened intuitively through my young adult development, and I would have never guessed that I would be using needles for a career! I had a fear of needles growing up, so I completely understand my patients’ initial hesitation. The benefits of acupuncture far outweighs the initial discomforts… and I have curated the most effective painless techniques, so you can optimize your outcome with minimum discomfort possible. I look forward to working with you.

Alexander Guzman, L.Ac graduated from Bastyr University’s naturopathic medicine and acupuncture dual program in 2022. He started his own practice in Kirkland, WA for a year before moving to the Valley with his wife and newborn baby boy to be closer to family.

Annette McDowell LAc., MAcOm, CYT

I am co-founder and manager of this clinic. It all began as a vision when my husband Virgil and I met at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in 2007, in Portland, OR. We related on both having grown up far from the city in rural-suburban areas with semi-subsistence lifestyles. Bringing the high arts of natural medicine and holistic lifestyles from the East to the untamed lands in the north seemed fitting and we headed to Alaska in 2010.

It is my mission to bring nuance to healthcare and lifestyles in the Mat-Su Valley, to include disciplines or practices which may seem foreign but have not been given a fair chance but would almost certainly reap huge benefits for those whom try.

Currently I’m working on managing the practice to grow into even more of a center for health and healing in the community. Additionally, I regularly pursue scholarly avenues to promote awareness of how Chinese Medicine and Yoga can benefit mental health, relieve pain, and help cope with living in an increasingly complex world. You can be sure I’ll be reading and writing so please check out the Blog section of the site and keep me in your prayers for more exciting publications to come! When I’m not being a businesswoman I’m being mom and Classically homeschooling my 2 kids, going on hikes, trying to be a musician, or reading literature or non-fiction. Not accepting new patients at this time.
